Really should re visit after all the titles are out,
This review is from: Doctor Who Revisitations, Vol. 1 (The Caves of Androzani / The Talons of Weng-Chiang / Doctor Who: The Movie) [DVD] (DVD)
I was a little confused like many fans at this box set reissue, as I felt revisiting the past should be done after every title has been released. If there were any fans who did not have these titles it is a great way to purchase them, if however like me bought the original issues then it is more hard to except re buying them. Now first of all the star rating I have based on the value not the stories that are contained in the set.I am not going to go on about the actual stories here as i think as fans you will know them pretty well from having bought the originals. So Firstly the Movie, I was hoping for a 5.1 mix of the soundtrack but alas just stereo, shame,(as another re-viewer has stated the BBC don't hold the original prints as they are held by universal, if that was the case and it is not there would have been no point re visiting this story at all as the picture would be the same as well)however the picture quality is almost the same as the original anyway. The extras are great however, and a commentary by Paul McGann, the other extras include is the Blue Peter stories and how the programme kept who alive. One thing is true in hind sight now everyone realized what a mistake it was to have a regeneration story half way through and how interesting it was that the BBC did not want it and it was the american half of the production. Caves again not much different with the story and again, it would have been nice to have a 5.1 soundtrack considering the cost of this set. The documentary is very good however as there was no real story on the original issue showing how this great story got to the screen with the return of Robert Holmes writing for the programme. All the old extras are included including the behind the scenes regeneration. Talons was a strange one to re issue as it was not one of the first stories released. OK you get 3 discs now two with extras, but the same commentary as the original. All in all if you have these stores apart from the extras there is nothing special here. You have to ask is are the extra worth the price as there appears to be very little change in the quality of the episodes, as i stated had perhaps 5.1 soundtrack been added and CGI effects to at least two of the offerings it could make you want to buy these stories again.I also feel stand alone versions would have made more sense allowing the fan to select the story they most wanted to re purchase. This feels a missed opportunity to at least make the soundtrack of two of the stories better. However if you are someone who has now got any of these or are collecting old episodes then this is a good way to buy them, I just wish the stories were issued as stand alone as opposed to a box set, so you could select the ones you wanted the most.
