Dan Stevens would make a good James Bond on screen, in the mould of David Niven or even Ian Fleming himself. Here, reading Casino Royale, his voice is very smooth and a little soporific. He's very easy to listen to.
Casino Royale is the first Bond novel and at times it is a little absurd. The early scenes at MI5 sound like something from a Boy's Own adventure annual. Luckily there is less exposition and reportage when the action moves to the French riviera, although Stevens' Gallic accent reminded me of Hercules Poirot. I liked Fleming's description of the baccarat games - no mean feat for a novelist. These same scenes just bored me in the film.
I don't usually read spy novels but there was enough interest here to sustain me. Well done to AudioGo for coming up with the idea of refreshing the Bond series with young , well-known actors as narrators.
