Through German Eyes,
This review is from: Through German Eyes: The British and the Somme 1916 (Hardcover)
Generally, the book failed to live up to all its hype and - at least to me - didn't say any thing new. I found it tiring to read, from beginning to end. On several occasions I was puzzled by sentences and their ultimate purpose. The writing lacks flair, and the apparently random use of obscure words adds to the woes. I did not like the footnotes. However, Duffy has succeeded in giving a reliable, if basic, account of the German Army on the Somme. It will be ideal for the novice student of military history.
