Diary of a Teenage Mom,
This review is from: Diary of A Teenage Mom (Kindle Edition)
The Diary of a Teenage Mom is the story of how the protagonist, a 16 year old, copes with an unexpected pregnancy. The story is told from the point of view of the teen and the author captures the protagonist's voice really well. The narrative is very well written and engaging and I was most impressed with the character development. Although there is some maturing on the part of the protagonist, she doesn't suddenly become middle-aged-mature overnight - the characters were therefore extremely believable.
The relationship between the girl and her mother is also fascinating and there is some major development there, too, but again it is subtle and convincing.
Although I am no longer a teen myself (haven't been for quite some time...) I do indulge in teen fiction very often and have to say this is one of the best examples I have encountered in this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it in the space of an afternoon, I really didn't want to put it down. I would recommend this book and think it would be particularly useful at demonstrating just how tough a teenage mother is likely to find life.
