1.0 out of 5 stars A Disgrace!!! DO NOT BUY, 2 Nov 2008
This review is from: Peter Kay's Special Kay [DVD] (DVD)
Please do not by this DVD. I quite liked Kay to start with and I do like Phynix Nights. Phynix Nights is however a shared piece of work between Peter Kay, Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice (Ray Von). This is despite Peter Kay calling it 'Peter Kay's Phynix Nights'. Dave and Neil have not spoken to Peter for years now because he has turned into an aragant igotist. This DVD opitomises is greed and willingness to rob from the hands that feed - his fans.

After not speaking to Neil Fitzmaurice for several years he randomly phoned Neil to tell him never to speak to anyone about him. What has he got to hide. Perhaps it's his startling lack of talent. Or the many stories that can be read on the internet of how he barges past people souting 'No Autographs!' when no-one has ever asked for one!!! Or maybe the £38,000 he asked for for 30 minutes work to open a local M&S store. For those who don't know, his dad used to work for M&S and obviously it was that money that Peter Kay grew up on. Needless to say, M&S told him where to go.

To this DVD - This has purely been designed to rip off his dwindling fanbase or for peope who know a friend who likes Kay and thinks this would make a great Christmas Present. Look at the growing number of reviews on here from horrified fans who got this for Christmas. Also look at the growning number of 2nd hand DVD's that are starting to appear so soon after Christmas. It seems that there are a lot of dissappointed people who want to get shut of this rubbish.

In terms of Peter's comic ability, I have it on very very good authority that he is one of the biggest rip-off artists out there. Now he has made it, it seems that he can't write any more material. Maybe he's worried someone will sue him for ripping them off.

I have been a big Comedy goer for many years and keep a keen eye on the circuit. I've seen most top acts and many many of the nearly men or those just about to make it. Any Comic worth their salt can write enough new material to release a new dvd of fresh material every other year. Those at the top of their game can release a dvd every year. Peter releases a DVD every year without fail. Trouble s that since the first 2 they contain no new material. Rumour has it he will be doing some low key dates in novemer 2009 to test new material. I'll believe it when I see it, afterall this is from someone who has openly admitted to hating his fans and hating doing stand up. This is probably why he is not bothered about releasing this dross and ripping people off.

Well, comics like Jimmy Carr will be performing whole shows that haven't even been written yet before november 2009. Which says it all.

The main bulk of this DVD can be downloaded for free from a superb fan site that is very easy to find. It is basically a whole collection of clips of what any other decent person would call dvd EXTRAS. It is disgusting that he has the gawl to release this stuff. It isn't even edited or cut very well. There isn't a single laugh-out-loud moment on the entire DVD.

Everyone into their Comedy knows that Daniel Kitson is one of the most talented, decent and inspirational comic around. He has won all the hge awards and always seems to win the Comics Comic award - which says it all. He's not as famous as some because he refuses to do TV work. The one TV thing he did was Phynix nights. Arguably the greatest comic on the circuit not on tv would never ever work for Kay ever again. We are talking about a true genius, not someone who shouts out 'Garlic Bread' for easy laughs.

This DVD does not contain any new material because he has not written any for years and years. Other comic can suffer from this as writing material that is new and fresh is very difficult. But the difference between Kay and others is that he is prepared to keep on reselling the same material and dig deeper into archieve footage for stuff that is probably not as funny because if it was it would have made it into his 'Top of the tower' DVD.

Tell you what. If you can't write anything funny Peter, why don't you try the only thing left from stealing peoples jokes - Put on a dress and pretend to be a woman! Oh, sorry... you've already done it and it was awful too.

I am not one to begrudge people success, money and fame. I do enjoy some of his stuff and I quite like him as a person. But I needed to write this as this DVD is a blatant rip-off for his fanbase. Please do not buy it, he needs to know that if he truly is a great comic he needs to release at leaste 8 DVD's of different shows. So far he has managed about one and a half.

For those how would like to check out true talent. Maybe look towards the likes of Rhod Gilbert, David O'Dogherty, Russell Kane, Dara O'Briain, Jimmy Carr, Al Murrey, Ed Byrne, Flight of the Conchords, etc, etc.
