We Brits used to tut at Americans for remaking our TV Shows....,
This review is from: The Tunnel [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
...now we're doing it with the "Scandi-dramas".
If you haven't seen The Bridge you'll probably enjoy it but this is a poor remake and the "writers from Spooks" have a bloody cheek giving themselves writing credits on what is basically an English-language shot-for-shot remake.
If you've not seen either and you don't mind subtitles I highly recommend you forget this and watch The Bridge instead which is much more genuine, has better acting and is just generally better. It's also on its 2nd series which is also very good!

Julian of Norwich says:
I really do not agree it is a shot-for-shot remake. There are some significant deviations from the basic story line of The Bridge. Different people die for different reasons and by different means. Usually more gruesomely and graphically, but it is hardly shot for shot. I had even at one point some hope that it would not have the same ending as The Bridge, because there were enough deviations that I thought they had been given free rein. They have not, in terms of the larger arc, but many smaller story lines are quite a bit different. I found it simply too brutal to continue watching--especially since I knew how The Bridge ended and hated the thought of how they might have goosed up the horror of THAT. But I could not complain that it was essentially the same show. It would not be accurate.

And, of course, 'The Bridge' is in the pre-production stage of Season 3.
I've seen both that and 'The Tunnel' which is definitely inferior, but it's still worth watching if you haven't seen TB. On the other hand, there is a strange pleasure in watching TT if you HAVE seen TB, just to spot the differences, similarities and identical aspects of both. The character of Saga in TB is way, way better and more fascinating but for me the characters of the 'opposite number' in the Danish or British police are on a par ... both equally well acted and interesting.
TT is, in so many ways, a fairly pointless rip-off of TB, yet it has its own merits so for that reason alone I'd have to say that it IS worth watching.
But if you haven't seen 'Bridge' - then watch that, especially as Season 2 follows on very well and finishes with two loose ends which will surely make Season 3 just as good.
