It is a read for both sexes. Bourgeois Brighton in the early part of the second world war.Men will enjoy the observation of a woman who may be conforming on the surface of everyday life to all her husband's wishes, but within her rebellion is welling up.
A woman Alison McCloud, writes about a woman and explores what is not easy to understand. She, the wife, disregards domestic conformity to secretly undermine her husband whose authority she sees through to give herself to the man her husband despises, but whose talent she admires. Does the husband sense this loss of authority?
It is best not to reveal and spoil a twist and ending that merits reading the book to discover.
