Connie Francis Sings Modern Italian Hits - AT LAST!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sings Modern Italian Hits (Audio CD)
At last, after years of waiting for Connie Francis' Italian albums to be released in full, and not mixed up on welcome but frequently repetitive and expensive compilations, here is Miss Francis' third Italian album: Sings Modern Italian Hits! Well worth waiting for! This release is excellent in every way - its four best points being:
1. Fine remastering with smooth, clear sound
2. The original album cover artwork
3. Informative liner notes
4. And, finally, able to be purchased at a truly bargain price.
The inclusion of bonus tracks on an album release is always a debatable point, but here, fortunately, they detract very little from the original concept. Some of the songs were recorded as 'possibles' for the original album, and have scarcely if at all been included on any other compilations. 'Al Di La' as its Italian only version is particularly superb!
The remainder definitely are 'extras', but great ones at that. Several tracks from the album 'More Italian Favorites' have been included, namely 'Guaglione', 'Torero', & 'That's Amore'. Personally, I have never particularly liked the song 'That's Amore', but Miss Francis waxed a great rendition. I find, however, that of the three,'Guaglione' is the cream of the crop. But they all mingle delightfully with some single releases - what else other than 'Tango Della Gelosia', for example - and other wonderful but often nearly impossible to find Italian songs, all sung in the inimitable Francis style. Beautiful orchestrations complete this treat!
Whether you are a Connie Francis' collector or simply enjoy beautiful Italian songs, of a time when singers really could sing, conductors really could conduct, and musicians really could play - how about purchasing a sample?
