Very pretty but superficial. Not worth repeated viewing,
This review is from: Nature Of Britain : Complete BBC Series (3 Disc Set) [DVD] (DVD)
At first glance this looked like it was going to be one of the BCC's treasures, but it turned out to be lots of pretty pictures and not much substance.
Titchmarsh is an enthusiastic and well informed presenter, who obviously loves the countryside of Britain. The photography in the series is stunning, and the images of the wildlife and plants are beautifully presented.
However... there really isn't very much here which is new. It's also stitched together in a disconcerting jumble; in theory following themes but in practice it feels like lots of 8-minute segments just bolted together to fill the time.
So the series is entertaining and interesting, but it's not gasp-out-loud stuff which thrills or educates the watcher. Stick to Planet Earth for sweeping beauty and series like Coast or Nicholas Crane's walking tours for more depth and understanding.
One to rent rather than buy.

Ms. J. Kerrison says:
This programme was a beauty, well presented by Alan T, and he informed the viewer of so many related items. I couldn't wait for the next episode, and the revelations must be very new to many people. Awesome stuff, congratulations to Alan T, I hope there is much more to come yet. I think Alan is informative, witty, and very interesting. I did not feel it was disjointed at all, but that could be because I was spellbound by the whole thing!!! Very British, a wonderful treat, more please, and soon.

I wish I had the vaguest clue what the reviewer and the commenter are actually saying but since both seem to be extremely vague and unspecific in their observations it leaves me with nothing at all to go on other than one liked it a bit and the other liked it a lot :-(
