This review is from: The Villa Diana: Travels Through Post-war Italy (Revival) (Paperback)
For anyone reading about Italy this volume paints a series of short pen pictures which bring the life of Post War Italy brilliantly to life. The author was a very high quality correspondent and this shows through in his thorough understanding of the country in which he was residing. This should be considered an essential read for any Italophile.
One small item of note for anyone wedded to the British pound and old enough to remember Lsd - we Brits pinched the abbreviation from Italian!(Lire Soldi Denari)

No, surely not from the Italian. It came from Latin - and being one of the colonies of that Ancient Roman empire, England, and later Britain did not have to pinch anything. It chose to use a system which was acceptable in the rest of Europe.
