This review is from: The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd (Audio CD)
The band (pronounced LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD, and the title of a 1973 album) was formed in the late 1960's by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. The band's name comes from a high school 'coach' Leonard Skinner. After playing small gigs around Jacksonville they established themselves in the 70's with a string of successful albums and songs including Nuthin' Fancy and Sweet Home Alabama. (some songs featured on this album are taken from Nuthin' Fancy). Their success was cut short at it's commercial height by a tragic palne crash that killed Van Zant, new guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines and assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick. A very unfortunate and awful accident. This album is a fantastic collection of their greatest hits. It is a very impressive CD. A must have for any fan of rock and roll or blues.
Thankyou, I'm here all week.
