BANKERS BEHAVING BADLY,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Laws of Contrition (Paperback)
A great read and very hard to put down. It doesn't just describe the banker's bad behavaiour, it also explains why they are the way they are and how it is that they can live in such a toxic and ghastly environment. It's not enough just to say they do it for the money. There has to be something more. And there is of course and Valerie Thompson draws out the individual personalities brilliantly. It's not easy at first to feel sympathy or even give a damn for many of the characters, but they become compelling quite quickly. People under pressure reveal their true selves and this is captured authentically. However, just when you think you understand what makes an individual tick something happens and you're back to square one, not knowing anything, and are drawn further and further in through the prism of Tanya Pryce's logic. Tanya is tough and complicated and gets tougher and more complicated and more interesting as the book progresses. She would not be sane if she was not screwed up. Also, the ease with which the complexities of the financial world are explained is miraculous. This is a great book. Very exciting. And some turn on sex too.
