This review is from: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)I didn't get to see this film at the cinema so was really looking forward to getting the Blu-ray disk especially as the reviews were mostly positive and the crits thought it was the best film of the series. I don't agree at all.
It was very choppy with short scenes that didn't fit together well. The plot was confusing and I say that having read the book at least three times! There were changes to the plot line that once again, as in the other two film, failed to show just how feisty Bella is. There were moments during the film when I shouted "No!" at the TV because of plot changes eg Edward meekly offering to stay with Bella and not take part in the fight with the vampire army. That is NOT the way it happened in the book. Also the scene in Edward's bedroom was so trucated and changed it did not show that Bella was so angry with events and the acquisition of the bed that she slept on the floor! Instead she just said it was OK. The tent scene was resonable as was the creation of the vampire army. The score was dull and un-inspiring. I cannot comment on the extras as I haven't watched them yet.
For me the first film still has the edge over the other two even though Bella's feistiness was not really evident. It didn't stick strictly to the plot but Catherine Hardwicke managed to convey the magical and powerful quality of the love affair between Edward and Bella both in the script(she used the important lines from the book to best effect), the locations and the colour palette used. The score was brilliant. Yes OK, the makeup was ..... poor in places with tide marks round the necks and hairlines of the vampires and there were continuity faults galore BUT it conveyed the sense of the book far more than the following two films.
I will watch this movie again just to see if it grows on me but I rather think that this DVD may end up in the Amazon Marketplace!
