Irrepressible Ginger Floyd,

This review is from: Floyd on Africa (Hardcover)
Sharing some nostalgia for Southern African erstwhile homes, a friend urged me to find this book, partly for the fun of recognisable ingredients merged into the recipes, but also for the evocation of atmospheres, peoples and places - there were times when you sniffed the smells, heard the sounds, and shared the novelties of the page by page destinations in Africa, visited, Floyd's humorous, irrepressible insinuations within frustrating circumstances, albeit brief, are a delight, coupled with the comradie of adventure. He clearly enjoys company, familiar, or new,. While his recipes and cooking methods are encouraging, and apparently conveniently simple, especially for travellers, we tended to wonder at the faithful addition of items such as ginger, lemon, and chillies in so many cases.
That breed of items does tickle the palate and work wonders for disguise, too,, but regrettably, not readily available or familiar to locals in unsophisticated areas, therefore not as authentic, as expected, The book is not demanding, but it is a pleasure to share Floyd's fresh joire de vivre, as his reputation, too, has proved.
