This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Flash MX 2004 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
I'll try to keep it short.
I started this book with a little knowledge of how to create animations and interactivity in Flash but I taught myself in about 2 weeks for a project at college. Therefore I had a small head-start when I started this book.
Phillip Kerman goes from the very basics to the reasonably advanced advanced features of Flash MX 2004. He describes each with pure clarity, but it can get boring when he's yapping on for pages about the benefits of the selection tool.
The tasks are where he falls down; they lack the clarity of the main text. His instructions are often vague (which is a cardinal sin in teaching books like this) and sometimes just plain wrong.
Also, you have to download some of the files for the lesson from his website. Which isn't too much hassle for most, but I don't have an internet connection on the same computer as Flash so it was for me.
Also (this con list keeps getting longer) his ActionScript lesson is rubbish. In the lesson he tells you what to type and when to type it, but sometimes misses out the important bit- WHY to type it.
Hope this helps
