Crazy flight controls,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Dark Void (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
This game seems to have a personality disorder. It does not know what sort of game it is... one minute it's trying to be a FPS, next it's a flight sim and this is where the problems come in. While all of it's ambiguated parts are done quite well, none are done very well. The controls for any kind of shooting show an inability to be able to target even when in manual aim. You can aim a rifle down the enemys nose at point blank range and still miss.
You can run out of ammo at the most inopportune moments and be left searching for ammo boxes... I had three boss bots to fight and no ammo in my guns.
The flight controls seem to show a knack of flying you into the nearest wall... I took off and flew into two walls and landed, dead, 5 feet from where I launched. Three times.
The flight guns can't hit the biggest targets... while trying to kill those three bosses in flight mode, every shot missed.
What kind of game throws you into a button mash mini game in the middle of flight combat? Dark Void.
Throw in a radar that makes the most obvious 'find the target' hunt impossible? Dark Void.
There is a really good game hiding under all this... mess, so if you're a game maker, give this game a look. It's a mine of unused ideas!
If you think you can handle the unresponsive controls and lack of auto aim or the ability to lock onto a target... it is fun, in places. Otherwise avoid it.
