I've had mine for about 2 years now I think. Because I hadn't seen anything like it I didn't expect it to last for more than a few months, but it's been so useful I would happily buy one every 3-6 months. Well maybe not happily, but now I have it I wouldn't want to go without. I play online poker for a living and when I lose my lighter etc in the dark I can flick the light on and off extremely fast and without really having to locate it fully or lose focus on my tables. I just wave my hand around a bit :D
The dimmer takes a little getting used to, but it just needs to be done slowly. You can make tiny adjustments simply by going from a cupped hand to flat and vice versa. To turn on and off move your hand cleanly over the top, making sure your hand doesn't start its journey within the range of its sensors.
Edit: They are a bit temperamental after being moved or getting a new bulb, so to the people who say they have died, make sure it's really dead before you throw it away. mine has "died" at least twice.
Sometimes it's on a very dim setting and you have to move you habd in sideways just above it, and then lift it up, and move it back out to the side again, repeating a few times. You will always have to leave it alone for 5-10mins after moving, and it should have at least a meter space above it, probably more. Wiping the dust off the sensors doesn't hurt either.
