5.0 out of 5 stars The Spanish Helmet, 1 Jun. 2011
This review is from: The Spanish Helmet (Dr. Matthew Cameron Series Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
The calm unhurried narrative voice of the historical journal entries provides a perfect backdrop to the energy of the present day adventure. The twists and turns of the treasure hunt are worthy of any thriller and the characterisation and motives of the key players appear real and believable. The premise itself will appeal to those interested in the history of the early explorers and it's evident that an enormous amount of research has been undertaken, yet it doesn't swamp the story.

The pace cracks along to an unexpected finale...won't give the game away!

I thoroughly enjoyed this and would certainly recommend it as a great read.

So pleased to hear that the finale was unexpected. I am sure that is the goal of a great many writer. It is also nice to see that you don't feel the research doesn't swamp the story. I read quite a bit in this genre and wanted to avoid some of the things that annoy me in those books. That meant, not too much preaching of history and no heroes (or villains) jumping out of aircraft and safely floating to earth aided by a handkerchief. Believable was my goal, so thank you for affirming that I pulled it off.
See you with my next book, working title 'Blind Run'.
