5.0 out of 5 stars The real Luftwaffe '46, 16 Feb. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Luftwaffe Secret Projects: Fighters 1939-1945 (Hardcover)
A fascinating book on German jet designs. After reading it one can't help but feel that the skys over Korea were contested by MEs (Sabres) and FWs (MIGs) - albeit with British engines. One can only question the insanity of so much effort put into designs that the Reich could never have built, let alone fuelled, when all was going to hell in a handcart. Great engineering designs, but they reinforce the image of the Third Reich as a madhouse, out of touch with reality.

P. G. Croft says:
At the close of your review you hit upon THE most important ingredient for the failure and futility of all that fantastic effort, imput, and ingenuity. All that unequalled advancement in EVERY scientific field, be it fuelled by slave labour, unbeleivable sub -human savagery, and unlimited funds, were completely undermined by the dim-witted gangster thugs that made up the Nazi party--from Hitler down. Had they left the vital and professional decisions to their military and scientific leaders, we would most certainly have been defeated. This book is unparalelled for detail, and with wonderful illustrations---they show a jaw droppingly futuristic and mind numbing huge gap between the allies and those German geniuses. To think that Churchills head Scientific advisor, Lord Cherwell, or Frederick Lindermann as was, insisted that a liquid fuelled rocket like the V2, was scientifically, utterly impossible for the Germans to develop. ---Lindermann ??? German isn't it? A close run thing indeed---BUY THIS BOOK.
