This review is from: Infinite Crisis (Paperback)
I have had to read this book 3 times before writing a review for it. The reason being is that upon my first read, I didn't know what to make of it. By that I don't mean I failed to understand it, I just mean I didn't know if I liked or loathed it.
I have been out of comics for several years, and came back into them with this book being one of my first purchases. However I have not read much of anything in DC after the last crisis (crisis on infinite earths).
The story follows the four characters who stepped aside at the end of the last crisis, those being superboy prime, superman of earth 2 along with his lois lane, and alex luthor of earth 3.
It appears that they have been following the dark events that have been going on since the last crisis, the death of superman, the whole hal jordan/parallax story, death of the second robin etc etc...
As a result of viewing all this they decide that the world is going to pot, and they are the ones to rectify matters by recreating earth 2 and starting over. This as I'm sure you can guess causes a whole host of problems, but I'm not going to spoil how it all pans out.
The real reason behind this story, I feel, is that DC has so much going on, more story lines, on top of story lines, on top of back stories. DC launched the original crisis to settle things down so they could attract new readers, without said reader having to read nearly every story from the last 5/10 years.
But again things went wild; I ask people if they prefer marvel to DC, or dark horse to DC (etc...), and dc rarely comes out on top, the reason being, people can't follow everything going on, only the die hard fans who have read everything for years actually know what is going on.
This book starts us off fresh again, and it is a good book, the artwork is consistant, the plot is as solid as the last crisis and you can, as I have, re-read the book several times and still enjoy it.
If you have just started reading comics, and want to read DC, don't be intimidated with all the characters in here, in fact I'd recommend this as a good place to start.
