This review is from: Much Ado About Nothing [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I worried that this Shakespeare was: (1) in black and white, and (2) with American accents (no offense, please). It took all of about five minutes for me to forget about all of that and settle in to enjoy an absolutely fabulous and true - and modernized - version of Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare's universal themes and motifs are everlasting and infinitely transferable to modern interpretations - obviously some of the reasons why he's still loved and enjoyed today. This was top class acting, top class reinvention of a charming Shakespeare, top class story telling. It would be helpful to watch it alongside a classical interpretation, and see which one makes the most sense to viewers. This one? Joss Whedon's woven magic here for the Bard. I laughed, I cried; I loved it.
