This review is from: Tamron - AF 200-500mm F/5-6.3 Di LD (IF) Lens for Canon (Accessory)
I recently changed my 7D for a 5D mk2 and now find that my Canon 300mm (480on my 7D)was not long enough for my needs. I am more a landscape photographer I suppose but want a lens for wildlife now and then that will give me pin sharp images in reasonable lighting conditions without costing north of five grand and this lens seems to do it.
The only test I could do after trying it out and being over the moon was against my 300 Canon. Both set at 300mm, ISO 100, f5.6 and on a good tripod I could not tell one from the other when zoomed in close on a 24" monitor.
If you want to go out before dawn you probably need to save your pennies up for something more expensive, plus no image SI (but neither has the canon 100-400mm) so it is probably prudent to use a monopod most of the time.
Unless you are a professional wildlife photographer I think this lens will suite most and just as an extra bonus it WILL fit in your bag,and you don't need to train at the gym four times a week to carry it.
