Fish is the latest instalment in the Polity Resource series which takes a detailed look at where our commodities come from. It details the extent of how that Chilean Sea-Bass (or even Patagonian Toothfish if we are to use it's real name) landed on your plate and the hundred of policies on it's size, shape, marketing name, catch location & method that have all been laid out before you have even had a bite. What follows is one of the more alarming reads I have had in a while; Fish lays out the problems with the way we catch & eat fish today with 20% of all animal-protein a human eats coming from fish (upto 50% in Asian countries!) and a rapdily growing population, some estimates give the worlds fisheries an expiration date of 2048.A fascinating read on an increasingly scarce commodity that might change the way you eat. Highly recommended. |
