Laugh a minute,
This review is from: Fred Claus [DVD] (DVD)
This is a christmas movie unlike any you will see, it steps away from Santa and focuses on his brother, who is here played by the persistently funny Vince Vaughn. Fred resents his brother and refuses to have any associations with him, that is until he leands himself in jail after a side splittingly funny scene involving two dozen santas in a department store. Fred needs his brother (santa) to pay him bail and santa says he will pay it, in wages when Fred comes up to the north pole to work for him. What follows is Fred trying to pay off his debt by working with the elves. The set pieces and dialogue are unbelievably funny, Vaughn does his usual non stop talk routine and it never gets old - the scene where he lectures a little girl about having a fifty inch plasma TV is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. The rest of teh cast are equally as good, Paul Giammati, Rachael Weizs, Kevin Spacey and Kathy Bates are just some of the more noticeable faces who bring their talents to this movie. The slapstick is clever and funny as is the witty banter and one liners, many of which are delivered by Giammati or Vaughn. This movie is both hilarious and heart warming, but maybe a little too heart warming by the end. Other than this slightly too sentimental ending the movie is very, very good. In fact i'd go as far as saying it is one of the funniest christmas films ever made.
