4.0 out of 5 stars Changed my mind this needs 5 STARS, 9 Dec. 2008

This review is from: La Fille Mal Gardée, [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
There are now two Royal Ballet performsnces of this. This first version has the edge slightly because of the personalities involved. Leslie Collier and the farmer's some have a cheekyness and simplicity which fits both roles exactly. The Acosta / Nunez version has a slight edge on recording quality but their faces do not fit the roles so well. Get both! Customer who says this is in black and white should either get his eyes tested or his equipment seen to. sometimes NTSC settings make PAL black and white and vice versa. Uprate this to four and a half. The sound quality on blu ray is 21st century! It's back in 2010 and on at Palais Garnier so it has made it's way to become a regularly performed mainstream ballet - not as indicated elsewhere! CHANGED MY MIND THIS NEEDS 5 STARS

Roger Smith says:
There are indeed two performances of La Fille from the ROH and you are certainly correct in saying the Collier/Coleman is the better, but I'm sorry to disagree with you on one thing -If the Nunez/Accosta performance is worth 10*, surely the Collier/Coleman must at the very least be worth 15*,its better danced and certainly better filmed, with a better corps de ballet to boot..
