This is one of Prince's more varied records. Certainly since he left Warner Bros.. A lot has been made of his recent direction but I dont think he could have kept himself occupied on the direction he was on and what we are seeing now is a more pared down (comparatively anyway and not on all tracks, Black Sweat is typically vivacious) sound with more impetus on songwriting but the same Prince charm. I need only quote a a line from track one: "let's get down like the Berlin Wall" to show that while this is a great record, it's not without a degree of self parody. Not usrprising from a man who became the symbol of love in protest.
I dont claim to be any great authority on Prince's music but I have a hugely varied taste in music and I reckon on having a fairly solid taste, which is telling me that I'll be enjoying this for a while to come yet.
Definitely highly recommended
