An ideal book for runners of all levels,
This review is from: The Marathon and Half Marathon: A Training Guide (Paperback)
I'd been running for a couple of years, gradually building up to my first full marathon (Loch Ness). I'd done a quite a few races, but the furthest I'd run was a half marathon and I was really quite nervous about the distance. I wasn't even really sure where to start with my training, and so I went looking for some help.
I can honestly say I found exactly what I was hoping for in this book. Starting from running basics (and clearing up terms and training techniques that I wasn't overly familiar with), it takes you through preparation and training for both the half and full marathon. I'd recommend this book to anyone preparing for either distance, and even for shorter races. The explanations are clear and helpful, the training plans are well structured but also account for flexibility, and there are sections on nutrition, stretching, training techniques, equipment and injuries. It's an ideal book for runners of all levels.
On a personal level, the effect of following this book's recommendations speak for themselves - I made it through in just under 3hrs 40mins, which I was delighted with!
