Lost Original Vibe,
This review is from: Kings of Rock 'n' Roll: The Best of Prefab Sprout (Audio CD)
Careful with this one - they have obviously redone the tracks for this 'new' album but have lost the original feel of the songs with it.
V. dissapointed - so bought 'A Life Of Suprises' for original sound.
Not only am I disappointed but am also annoyed as I feel I have been duped into buying this CD by the pretext of the title - 'The Best Of' Prefab Sprout. How can it be as the original songs have been recycled and so are not in their original form.
'When Love Breaks Down' is a case in point, one of the main reasons I have revisited Prefab Sprout and bought the CD - Playing it and realising it isn't in its original form I was not a happy bunny.
They should make it clear on the CD and literature that the songs on this album have been remade recently.
Sorry Prefab your production doesn't quite cut it like it used to.
Advice - If you want the original sound of their classic tracks buy one of the older albums.

Thanks for this. It's one of my pet peeves. I nearly bought this album until I read your warning.

Thanx for you're feedback, I'm glad you found my review useful.
It is very annoying when buying a 'Best Of' to find the songs changed from the originals - I have done this a few times.

Simone, MY FAVE band, I have original vinyl Steve McQueen. This has already been done and much better. Just record company trying to rip people off. Get the originals, pure sound!

Thanks. I had a similar problem with another artist, one of the tracks being a more recent re-recording and had lost a lot in the process.
This makes me wonder how many, if any, of the other reviewers of this Frefab CD have actually listened to it. Or are they just "reviewing" the choice of tracks included.

I'm interested in your comments on this CD, particularly that the songs are altered from the originals. In what way have they been changed? Are they remixes or something? Thanks for your help.

Yes i'm very intrigued to know which tracks on this are different from the originals. I know there are two versions of When Love Breaks Down one on Two Wheels Good and the other on Steve Mcqueen. So in what way do the other tracks differ ?

When Love Breaks Down did get remixed in 1985 for its first re-release (he says, trying not to confuse himself). So the differences there might just be the 1984 and 1985 versions ended up on the UK/US editions of the time. However, I am stunned to discover that this most recent compilation doesn't have the original recordings! I've lost my copy of 38 Carat, and popped on here to see whether this set would make a quick and cheap replacement. Apparently not!
How very odd...
