Excellent, moving story,
This review is from: A Friend Like Henry (Paperback)
This book tells a hard story - the first third in particular describing what life was like as parents grew up with an autistic boy and tried to connect with him was eye opening - just how hard, how much of a struggle the process was, combined with an all too familiar tale of the family being completely let done by virtually all the professionals they consulted.
I was attracted to the book by the idea that a loving dog helped in this process, and while the book does explain this beautifully, it only takes up the middle third of the book - the fact that the book took so long to get to the story about the role of the dog I found frustrating - a great and moving story nonetheless, but not quite what it says on the cover (because two thirds of it is about other things)
