I was quite surprised to discover that slightly over 4g of the sugar in processed foods equals one teaspoon, so if you are eating a low fat yoghurt with 16g of sugar, that's nearly four teaspoons of sugar in that little pot. I was also surprised to learn that every bit of sugar that you put into your body is instantly turned into fat and stored somewhere in your body for use later (men: stomach & waist; women: bottom & thighs). Go to the gym, pound away on the treadmill for an hour, eat a pot of low fat yoghurt and you've just wasted that hour on the treadmill. No wonder you can never lose weight.
Even after finding all that out, do you know how difficult it is to throw away a tub of ice cream and a tube of Rolos? I kept taking them outside to the bin, looking at them longingly and then bringing them back inside. It took me two days! Addicted? Completely.
I'm now eating a form of Paleo diet, mainly a cooked breakfast at about 8am (bacon, eggs, black pudding, tomatoes) with perhaps an apple for lunch and steak or something similar for tea (I don't feel hungry until about 7pm). I also eat small portions of new potatoes (steamed) and beans with my tea for the carbohydrate & fibre. I then go for a walk and have an apple when I get back. I'm not too worried about the sugar I get from them because it's more natural, and I'm still losing weight.
This is a very good book for finding out the truth about sugar and how it is slowly killing you, and how you are so addicted to it you will keep eating it even though you know you will eventually get so fat your heart will burst and you'll die. If you saw someone die of lung cancer you would never smoke again, yet we know that every day thousands of people die from heart disease and other illnesses related to their addiction to sugar and yet we keep eating the stuff.
