This review is from: Rachmaninov: All-Night Vigil, 'Vespers' (Audio CD)
How much do I know about classical music? A little bit perhaps. Do I understand choral music? No, not really if I'm honest. Had I even heard of Rachmaninov's 'Vespers'? No, not at all. I saw this at a bargain price and thought I had nothing to lose by buying it and if I didn't like it then it would just go to the charity shop. So I put this CD on and to my ears this music is simply sublime and transports you to another place, be it a gothic cathedral or even lying on a beach with the waves crashing in the distance.
I may not have heard other versions of this work and am therefore unable to comment as to whether the bass doesn't resonate enough or that the sound quality isn't up to scratch. What I do know is that I like this very much and the Corydon Singers sound terrific. If you just want to chill out and lose yourself then you could do a lot worse than to stick this on the CD player. Strongly recommended.
