Superb quality Television,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sony KDL32EX723BU 32-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 3D 100Hz Edge LED Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)I've always hankered after a Sony Bravia television since I first saw one many years ago in Thailand. I took the plunge and decided to buy one last month. I am VERY glad I did. It came in a couple of days, I plugged it in, went through the setting up procedure and it works. Once you get the hang of the vast menus available the results are sublime. Picture quality is first rate, the sound is improved by having external speakers which I have connected. (Simple job). Buy an HDMI cable and plug your computer into it and you have a massive monitor too. (Quality is excellent). I've just bought the 3D glasses to go with the television and there is a simulated 3D mode in the menu which is good for wild life and sports programs. I'm looking forward to full HD in the area where I live which I believe will be available in August 2011. The television is expensive but worth every penny.

Any update on the quality of 3D? I appreciate there are TV's out there for a couple of thousands points and obviously will perhaps have a better quality of 3D but I am interested in this tv for Gaming and Blu-ray only and was wondering if you could share your experience with the 3D.

Its a great 2d telly but the 3d is bad, really bad. Sony should be embarrassed, i would go as far as to say they should stop advertising this as a 3d compatible as it is unfit for purpose. Crosstalk is very noticeable on top half of the screen rendering most things unwatchable. Even worse with games, wipeout is totally unplayable in 3d with this set.
This review is pretty clear on the matter:

To be honest, I have not really tried the 3D part of the TV. I bought the glasses hoping that there would be some 3D programs or films to watch but there are not. High Definition came to my area in August, the wildlife programs are very high quality, normal programs are marginally improved with HD. There are only four channels on Freeview in this area transmitted in HD. I am not into "gaming" so I would not know how the TV performs in that mode. As one comment says, it is a good 2D TV but the quality of the 3D is questionable. Consequently, I downgrade the TV to only four stars.

If you want to try out the 3d try the Bravia Internet tv, on there you will find a 3D channel with a selection of 3D trailers and same clips.

Hi Just a couple of questions , How bad is the viewing angle ? I know its not great but how do you get on with it.
Do you find the motionflow feature to be any good ? Clear is said to give the best results , Its worth pointing out to folks that might not be aware , LCD panel tv's LED or CCFL can only manage 300 lines of resolution on fast movement ! Plasma's can resolve the full 1080 or 720 , this is why LCD's always have smearing issues , with the sony motionflow the 723ex is able to resolve the full 1080 lines in clear mode , but what about side effects ?
Sorry to be so anal but I'm looking to get a new tv this spring/summer and its either this set or the 523ex or a Panny plasma .

Hi Chris, sorry but I am not qualified to answer your question. To be honest I don't really understand all that technical stuff. I only use the TV for watching broadcast television not internet or DVDs. I find the quality of High Definition broadcasts to be first class. Hopefully, when 3D comes out I shall benefit from that too. I also use it as another monitor for my computer which I find gives excellent results. One thing I have done is put a couple of speakers connected to the TV as the quality of the built in speakers is not first class. Hope this helps.

The viewing angle is fine, I've never had any problems with it. As for motion flow, well these modes are always subject to personal taste. Switching it on does indeed make movements smooth but tends to make everything look like its videotaped and clear mode seems to work fine but dulls the picture. My preference is to have these modes off and I've never been bothered by any noticeable smearing. Like I said before, great as a 2D tv but utterly useless as a 3D tv. But i'd advise that if smooth movement is your main concern you'd be better off overall with a plasma anyway.

I have EX723 40 , very quick delivery ! 1st impressions were not great I must say , it looked too dark and dim ! Yet the backlight was quite high as was the contrast ? Turning off the light sensor in the eco menu had a dramatic effect ! No wonder some folks are struggling to get the picture right as I feel this is a very degrading feature , so I was wondering what settings people are using with the Sony ? I now have the backlight on 1 or 2 max and contrast around 86-90 , also backlight bleed ? I'm getting a little at the bottom right of the screen , anyone ?
Ok a quick update , after three days I've decided to return this to amazon ,the backlight bleed is far worse than i thought ! After watching the Immortals on BR which has numerous dark scenes , there is splodges of backlight almost everywhere around the edges of the screen , it looks bloody awful , that plus the sound distorting and vibrating even at modest volume means i can't live with this Sony ! Very dissapointed . Its going back .
