IM A BELIEVER!!!,
This review is from: White Light / White Heat (Audio CD)
People say that the velvets were ahead of their time, which in some cases is true, but at the same time-what era COULD you put this under?! No matter how much nostalgia or descriptions you've read of these songs, nobody can ever predict the sound of this record. Its not the distorted mess you at first expect, but at the same time this is the album your mother warned you about! I bought this about a month ago but its just really grown on me now. title cut is a layered masterpiece: fuzzy guitars, piano, camp vocals-first stages of glam rock. 'The Gift' is great at serving its purpose, no more. 'lady godiva's operation' is absolutely superb when it gets REALLY gets going. First listeners would see 'Here She Comes Now' as tedious, but the catchy bass and guitar solo at end marks it perfectly. 'I Heard Her Call My Name' is of course brilliant-drugs, death and feedback with the lightness of the early beatles. And now, prepare yourself for the best track on album and possibly ever:
SISTER RAY!!! fatastic brilliant superb outrageous angry cool!
the organ lends a fun and optimistic edge to the brutal mix.
I thought the reviewers above were going a bit over the top saying its the greatest rock revord ever, but next to CAN's 'Tago Mago' IM A BELIEVER!!!
