1 Year Review - No Problems,
Thought I'd leave this here... I bought this processor about a year ago for a new gaming pc I built. I've been reading reviews with different negative points. The fan, the paste, etc etc. But I've never had a single issue with this processor or the fan. I've left it at stock speed (3.8GHz boost which it runs whenever I game) and I've NEVER seen the temperature go over 60 degrees and I've never seen the usage go above 70. Those points are playing games such as Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Medal of Honor: Warfighter.
I read a lot about Ivybridge being a bit 'dodgy' and having temp. issues. Never once.
The fan is also silent for me. I own an Antec 900 case which has a meaty 120mm fan on the top, but even then, I don't hear a single whirr from anything (except my graphics card, that thing is loud...). If you are going to overclock it, it is always recommended to buy an aftermarket fan and the paste was already applied for me and I've no issues. If you're going to be taking it in and out and be overclocking it a lot, you're obviously going to have issues with the stock fan/paste.....
I would recommend this CPU to anyone who is building (although Haswell is now out you may want to think about those, but even then, there's not much difference....). Runs amazingly with my Radeon 6870 & 8GB ram on a Gigabyte z77-D3H motherboard.
