interesting but flawed revision,
This review is from: The New Mythic Tarot Pack (Paperback)
The New Mythic deck takes the characters and events from Greek myth and legend and applies them to both the Major and Minor Aracana. The intention was to create a deck with a psychological slant and the insights in the acomanying book lean to inner meanings rather than predictive ones.
Each of the suits follows the events of a myth cycle:
Wands: Jason and the Argonauts
Cups: Eros and Psyche
Swords: Orestes & the curse of the House of Atreus
This means that although the interpretations are broadly those of the Rider-Waite deck the imagary is mostly original and as such probably not the best place to start if you're new to tarot.
I enjoy using this deck and find the asignations convincing but I do have one small gripe. The original Mythic deck, of which this is a faithful re-creation, had all the charm of hand-drawn artwork. However this deck is partly hand-drawn and partly computer generated and the CGI aspects are not good. Almost every instance of water is created with flood-filled images resulting in a static, false feel and on the Tower a well drawn Poseidion rises out of a garish sea with nasty drop shadows.
I know that CGI is popular in tarot now (a la Ciro Marichetti) but it does so spoil this otherwise excellent deck.
