I may have been lucky...,

This review is from: 320x MICRO LED NATURAL/WARMER WHITE fairy lights, 22.33m, Christmas Festive - 3634-110 Konstsmide
I used to put a set of 20 coloured mains lights on the Christmas tree in my front garden. 3 years ago I realised the tree had shot up to 20 feet so my set of lights would look silly. Time for a change. The Konstmide might seem expensive - but that's a lot of leds at a fraction of what leds used to cost not so long ago. Anyway - even 320 leds proved to be inadequate. So the next year I bought another set - and chopped 8 feet off the tree and trimmed it all round. Better, but still not enough. So this Christmas I added another 2 sets of lights. However, I had left the previous 640 lights on the tree throughout the year and (a) they had faded to becoming not-quite-so-warmer white and (b) 7 of them had gone kaput. But - a total of 1,273 is just right - and with the same electricity consumption as my old lights.
Now - why was I lucky? The problem is that the transformers should be indoors even though the lights (and control units) are weather-resistant, but there is nowhere near enough low-tension cable (I would need 15 metres AND drill a hole through the house wall). But I do have a power spike under the tree, so I made a rain-proof box to house the transformers under the tree, with legs giving it 4" ground clearance. Worked fine - until the Boxing Day floods and my front lawn was 9" deep in water. Everything went bang, of course. The water subsided by Christmas day and I rescued all the equipment, drained the water out of the transformers and left them in the sun (believe that if you will) to dry. Re-installed (longer legs on the box now) - and all working again. So - altogether quite a resilient piece of kit, I would say.
