A good choice of subtle, modern, textured designs.,
This review is from: Shades of Winter: Knitting with Natural Wool (Paperback)
This is knitting with natural wool - so no bright colours here, just 3 sections of white, beige and grey knits. They range from fine lace knits with 3mm needles to chunkyier 6.5mm needles, and of course you dont ahve to knit the exact colurs shown. The yarn weights are in American - i.e worsted, not aran weight, but the needles are given in mm, and the wools are shown by ball length as well as weight and tension, so easy to substitute for english yarns.
I like that the accessories come as a set - e.g. Matching beanie hat, wrist warmers and capelet/skirt which I am very tempted to knit - maybe even a matching cape and skirt! ;)
In all there are:
10 tops, from light lacy vests to heavy textured sweaters
4 cardigans from bolero to coatigan
3 dresses from very simple to intricate lace
6 sets of accessories from matching socks and gloves to the above intriguing set.
The patterns range as stated from basic stockinette stitch to huge charted lace, but there is something for all levels, and knitting a small hat or wristwarmer is a great way to try out lace or textured knitting for the first time. The items are well photographed despite the pale wools used. Personally I would have welcomed some darker browns or blacks, and I am sure others will miss pattern work, but there are a lot of books on natural nordic knits etc, so this one fills a nice little gap very well.
