3.0 out of 5 stars A good effort, but there are better versions, 24 Sept. 2012
This review is from: The Qur'an (Oxford World's Classics) (Kindle Edition)
Because the Quran was revealed in Arabic, any translation will always be deficient of the true meaning. If one really wishes to understand Quran then the first step would be to learn the arabic language. This however is not practical for many and hence translations are necessary. This particular translation is a very good one but I believe it is now dated and Quran Made Easy: Complete English Translation with Inline Commentary currently sets the standard for the most accurate and easy to understand english translation of Quran.

Your god was incapable of communicating his message accurately and coherently in any language other than Arabic What a very strange religion.

Your comment was supposed to be about the book i.e. the translation of the Quran and it's contents; not to insult the entire community of more than 1 billion people and the God. Shocking & hurtful! You are a vile person.

M. Johnson says:
An idiotic comment. God communicated in Arabic, and what is more an Arabic that is now 1600 years out of date. So the fact that there are difficulties in translation into modern languages and idioms goes without saying. But many modern translations do get at the meanings sufficiently well, and even if your read it in Arabic your are still making an interpretation, of course. And by the way, he is your God too, even if you know it not.

Why doesn't 'he' (we know he is a man, right?) just write a second edition in all the languages of the world, so that we can all understand it without arguing?

After all, I am English, not ancient Arabic and he is my god and all that...
