This review is from: Covering McKellen (Kindle Edition)
Mr Weston writes one helluva book! His account of a year spent covering Sir Ian McKellen in a world tour of "King Lear" is absolutely fascinating. I read it in three big sessions and was genuinely sorry when I got to the end. For anyone interested in entering the real world of the professional theatre this book should be compulsory reading. His love of acting and actors shines out of every page but he never loses his clear and totally honest view of the perils and pitfalls as well as the pleasures and delights of the business.
Having seen three of Mr Weston's early films on TV recently (The Masque of the Red Death, The Heroes of Telemark and Becket) it's a pleasure to discover that he is healthy, happy and still doing the work he loves. The book is peppered with anecdotes from his career that enliven the text and make me wish that he would tackle a full autobiography. I believe his life and career to be a tale well worth telling.
