This review is from: Rooms: The Main Building (Nintendo DS) (Video Game)
Having looked forward to the puzzling experience promised by the tv ads I am very very disappointed with this game.
For a start, the actual playing area is probably around 1/4 of the available screen - the rest is taken up with static building-block-type graphics that do nothing to enhance the playing experience. The result is that the rooms are pretty tiny, and the detail in them almost impossible to make out. To me this was wholly unnecessary and has really spoiled the game for me. I love puzzle games, but if I could send this back for a full refund, I would.
The game itself promises more than is delivered. So far I've collected gold keys that don't open anything and there is no evidence of the gold puzzle pieces that you are promised for completing each level. When you complete a room, the background of the mansion plan turns gold if you leave the rooms in exactly the right position, and silver if you complete the puzzle but don't leave the rooms where you're supposed to; hitting the hints button takes you to a tutorial page rather than giving tailored instructions for the particular puzzle you're in at the time. And what is really silly is that, despite being asked to enter your id at the start of the game, it refers to you as Mr X all the way through regardless. The id is only useful for identifying your file.
I really should learn to wait until games have been tried and tested by other reviewers, but being an avid puzzler can't wait to get my hands on new ones!

I totally agree with the above review. I was so disappointed with this game, and I feel its so unfair not to be able to get refunds on these games as they cost a lot of money! I thought this one was going to be like professor Layton style which the ad showed, I also should of waited for the reviews and have now found a site where I can hire the games to see if I like them before I buy them. This is Tesco dvd rentals they have games to hire on there too.

Thanks for the tip! We used to have a blockbusters up the road, but it went a long while ago. I will look into Tescos, cheers.

I agree with all the critical comments above - 'shoddy' I would call it - not a patch on Professor Layton games. I would also like to see a 3 year old play with this game and get to the final end - what ever that is - like the rest I should save my money and wait for the reviews and the new Professor Layton games. an avid puzzler too.
