Hard Candy is Sweet,
This review is from: Hard Candy (Audio CD)
Counting Crows have yet to dissapoint me. They have created yet another masterful, image laden, brilliant, album. In Hard Candy, they have a record that is full of great harmonies and songs that get stuck in your head. Guest appearnaces by Ryan Adams and Sheryl Crow don't hurt either. The hidden track is great too. . . A repectful, and in my mind, a superior, cover of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi."
Counting Crows have mastered the truely diverse record. (not that they hadn't before) From the up-tempo "American Girls," to the waltzy "Butteryfly in Reverse," and finally to the so very sad "Black and Blue" the crows have captured another vibrant range of emotion.
The UK version of this record has two tracks that the US version doesn't have. "4 White Stallians" and "You Ain't Goin Nowhere" are both great. The first, has been a song that the Crows have played for some time, it even appears on their demos, it is great. I was lucky to pick up the second bonus track on a UK release single for American Girls. Both are superior songs and a good reason to own the UK version of the disk.
