A fine debut from Mr Plant,
This review is from: Pictures At Eleven (Audio CD)
Robert Plant's debut album still sounds good today.Plant produced it himself and he gives his all on vocals throughout.
Plant recruited the formidable talents of the late ,legendary Cozy Powell on two of the strongest tracks-"Slow Dancer" and "Like I've Never Been Gone".Phil Collins plays drums on the remaining 6 songs to great effect.Bass is played by Paul Martinez whilst Jezz Woodroffe handles keyboard and synth duties as well as co-writing 2 of the songs.Robbie Blunt is a revelation on guitar .He was/is a vastly under-rated musician who also contributed his song writing skills to every track here.My favourite tracks are the two previously mentioned songs and also "Worse than Detroit" but there are no weak links here.
The expanded version has two additional songs-" Far Post" and a live version of "Like I've Never Been Gone" which are most welcome (the latter being over 7 mjnutes long).Plant's next musical adventure would find him taking a slightly different direction but thats another story...
