A Fine One From The Face of '68,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Thank You Mr Churchill (Audio CD)
Amazing isn't it that this man was originally famous for his "face" - the music mattered not one jot, but then, he was with the Herd, and the least said about that the better. Yet here we are, with all those years behind him (and us!) and, true to form, he hands in yet another superlative piece of grown-up rock.
I remember the first time that I heard his playing on the early Humble Pie albums, especially PERFORMANCE, where he let rip with his articulate and fluid, almost jazzy, solos. I always thought that he was far more than just an out and out rocker and indeed over the years, whilst he has continued delivering AOR rock, he has also delivered some very sassy music too, suitable for any appreciative adult rock audience.
So what have we here? Well, nothing to surprise, just more of his delicious musical styles showing a songsmith truly at the top of his craft. Opening with the softly rocking "Thank You Mr Churchill" we move up through the gears to "Asleep At The Wheel" with it's terrific stuttering infills and solos, but it's actually the supreme "Liberte Suite" that has you sitting up and listening closely throughout it's almost seven and a half minute playing time - exquisite...and thinking about my comments elsewhere about 2010:The Year Of The Guitar Wizard - this is yet another to throw into the same bag.......Brilliant!
Never a vocalist of the power of Mr Marriott, Peter still nonetheless delivers an easy listening voice that more than suits the material on display here, any shortcomings more than vanquished by that superlative Les Paul.
Here's to many more of the same from Mr Frampton!!
