The Unsatisfactory Day,
This review is from: The Remorseful Day (Inspector Morse) (Paperback)
Having read all of the previous Morse mysteries and having enjoyed their conclusions, I found the conclusion of this last book, The Remorseful Day, most unsatisfying.
I knew Morse was unwell from the previous two novels, and in the penultimate novel (through his illness) he had a happy relationship with his nurse. Throughout the series Morse was always portrayed as a solitary figure who longed for a committed relationship. I closed the penultimate book with a smile, feeling that Morse had finally found the relationship he deserved. The Remorseful Day, however, left me feeling desolate.
I have given the book four stars because although I detested the ending, it was beautifully written.
