Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 4) (Hardcover)
This book would have benefited from being slashed by about 2/3.
It meanders ... a lot.
Some of the most interesting characters are not mentioned at all. Apparently the next book is going to the the point of veiw from those characters missed out - which makes me feel the series isn't going to come to a satisfactory end anytime soon!
Of those characters who remain, nothing much happens to them. There's lots of mud, lots of people dying horribly and lots of misery all round. It all gets a bit repetetive.
Also, does George RR Martin mysogyny is getting a bit hard to take; look at the way the women are described physically (it's all massive thighs or breasts or "teats" - or conversely if they don't have massive ones then they're unattractive).
Cersei goes from being a controlled, intelligent woman who sucessfully manipulates those around her to a cartoon cut-out. Drunk, lousy judgement and inept.
And what a surprise; she ends up naked and in peril.
Jaime: we finally get to see him as a little less one-dimensional.
Brienne: I like her, I'm glad to see more of her. It's a pity her story is so bloody dull! And ends up with her nearly naked and in peril.
Erm.. that's it.
I would like to say that I'm looking forward to the next book the way I looked forward to this one but that wouldn't be true. There's a large part of me thinking I should wait, read the reveiews and then decide whether to bother with it at all.

Stupid comment. Daenerys is depicted as having small 'teats' but also as the most beautiful girl in the world. I enjoyed the book over all, probably because I just love the world he has created. I'm hoping there is more to the next one though. And where did the big blue boxed edition of book 5 go????
