Quirky tale of greed, nobility and ecology!,

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)A fable for our times, I suppose, although human nature being what it is, the theme of short term gain vs long term pain is hardly a novel one!
The characters and setting of this book are charming and intriguing, and the author's imagination obviously very fertile. The day-to-day life and adventures within the microcosmic world of the tree would interest any child, I should think.
That said, as an adult reader I found the style a bit turgid, possibly through being a translation, and the message much too heavy-handed. The morals drawn are very obvious, and really don't need endless repetition. We know what we are doing to our planet - or at least we jolly well should do by now! - and in my opinion a book aimed at young (10-ish) children is not the arena to use.
