This review is from: The Liability [DVD] (DVD)
The Liability has all the components of a British comedy thriller and definitely is set to establish itself as a classic, putting an amusing spin on the dark reality of the hit-man profession.
Cast including the legendary Tim Roth, rising star Jack O'Connell and talented Peter Mullan, were enough of a persuasion to watch The Liability. Tim Roth plays Roy, a cold-hearted assassin who, at first lacks a conscience and has pathological tendencies, similar to the character he portrayed in the 1984 critically acclaimed British film The Hit. O'Connell plays emotionally immature Adam, a 19-year old whose troublesome nature gets him on the wrong side of his mother's criminal mastermind boyfriend Peter (Peter Mullan).
Adam is sent by Peter on an assassin job with Roy. The pair's comical chemistry and their opposing characteristics contribute humor and sarcasm towards the dark plot. Midway through the assassination they are interrupted by a Latvian woman (Talulah Riley) who comes seeking revenge and reveals knowledge of a sex trafficking scandal which thickens the plot. This brings more depth to the plot and connects with the characters back-stories effectively. A cat and mouse type chase then goes on between the characters with further twists, back-stabbing and violent lashes. The concluding scene ends the plot in an exciting, unpredictable and satisfying way. A must-see film that has humor, an interesting plot and talented British actors- recommended.
