A cut above the rest,
This review is from: The Edukators [DVD] (DVD)
World cinema is not to everyone's taste, and German cinema is not renowned for producing blockbusters. This is a shame as there really are some good quality films that are a cut above the rest. You really should not pay much attention to some of the negative reviews here, it would seem some people can't differentiate between a fictional film and a political statement. This film does not patronise its viewers and it certainly dioes not give a biased opinion of capitalism. It does however present a serious of complex situations which arise when relationships collide, be it the romantic relationships between Jule & Peter, Jule & Jan and the friendship between Peter & Jan. Yes, the main protaganists are partisan to a certain political persuausion, but it no way tries to educate the viewer. Throughout the film, the underlying message is how delicate relationships are and how they can be manipulated to the benefit of one and the disadvantage of others. There really isn't much point in outlining the plot, as one would argue that you would know of this before buying the film. This film is in my top 10 of all time films. Other German films I would recommended films are; Das Leben der Anderen, Barfuss & Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. One final note, if you are going to purchase this film, you should try an obtain the copy that has both alternate endings. You may have to purchase it from Amazon's German site.
