Useful - and fun,

This review is from: London's Secrets: Pubs & Bars: A Guide to 240 of the City's Best Pubs & Bars (Paperback)
I bought this book to do a job – to help me find special places to drink on trips to London – so I was surprised to find myself reading it for fun as well. All the 250 (they say - I didn't count them) pubs and bars featured get a page each for one or more colour pics and of course descriptions of what they have to offer but for me what really makes the book are the nuggets given about the pubs’ histories - this pub was used as a location for a Harry Potter film, that pub in Wandsworth was visited by Hemingway and Dylan Thomas (no, not at the same time). The book is a good size for your pocket if you are exploring London by foot, and as you would hope pubs are listed by region, with usefulmaps to help you find the nearest listed pub to where you are. I especially appreciated the “Speciality Index” at the end of the book that lets you find, for example, country-specific pubs and bars in case you want to track down say an authentic glass of Kolsch. Now, where is that pub with the automatic dog washer?
