Why The Silly Singing?, Awful Audio Adventure,
This review is from: Doctor Who and the Pirates (Audio CD)
Doctor Who & The Pirates.
4 - Episodes
Running Time 120 Minutes
1)When it Ended.
1)Silly farical plot that sends up the show, It's storys like this that give anti Who haters yes Mr Grade that means you the ammo to disrespect our beloved tv show.
2)The singing in fact got on my nerves so much it took me three listens to finish this adventure & i never want hear it again, I kept Paracetamol in business listening to this, Oh how my head ached.
The Irrepressible Cavalier Hero The Doctor! -- Colin Baker
The Daring Damsel Associate Evelyn Smythe! -- Maggie Stables
Lovable Cabin Boy Jem! -- Dan Barratt
Tragic Student, Sally! -- Helen Goldwyn
Red Jasper, Scourge of the High Seas! -- Bill Oddie
The Foppish Captain, Emmanuel Swan! -- Nicholas Pegg
The Ruthless Mr. Merryweather! -- Mark Siney
The Mate/Sailor/Pirate! -- Timothy Sutton
Oh dear this story hurts to review as it's a product of Doctor Who that's shockingly bad but i have be honest in my reviews so here goes.
Doctor Who & The Pirates is simpy put is one worst storys Big Finish have written & whoever thought the singing was a good idea wants there P45 & needs marching orders immediately.
The plot well what i could fathom out to be a plot sees The Doctor & Evelyn who are retelling a previous adventure to one of Evelyns student's named Sally about there encounter with Pirate's & Ole Red Jasper, a "OTT" Bill Oddie, & is told in a third dimension perspective & then the Doctor starts to sing.......I am the very model of a Gallifreyan Buccaneer.
Oh my god, well that's the printable version to my reaction anyway, a singing Timelord?, why?, & the singing never stops throughout the second disc making this listener longing for death.
There is a emotional reason to the ending why the Doctor & Evelyn are telling this adventure to Sally but in the end i didn't care i just wanted the adventure to be over & "END"!!!
It took three agonizing sittings to review this product so please vote Yes just for doing that for this review.
Since hearing this musical adventure it's been a overload on my brain & because of those awful songs my sanity is now debatable.
Colin Baker must have thought "Why Me Lord" when he got this script & i do hope he was paid well.
Colin Baker deserves a lot better than the material he's been given here as Colin has become a excellent audio Doctor Who & this script is a embarrassment to a actor of Colins calibre.
There is no way Tom Baker would've have done this story he'd thrown the script threw the window with his usual comment of "Audible Print".
My advice is avoid this audio adventure like the plague if you want a classic Doctor Who pirate adventure you wont find it here instead try Series 6 of new Doctor Who episode 3 'The Curse Of The Black Spot' as there's no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, more like a smelly old boot instead.

It's different that doesn't mean it's good though.
Fair points From your good self but the plot was just farical, I dont get what Big Finish were trying achieve with this release.
I assume it's a comedy musical?
Nah not for me this one but i have to review what i feel with honestly & although i love Doctor Who this was awful in my opinion.
Thanks for feedback, i reviewed this as a risk as it goes againt my usual positive review's, It's shaking up my review's up a little.

He's outstandingvon audios on tv he was the Doctor during turbulent vtimes thanks to bloody mr Powell & Grade, if you seen documentary on Trial of a Timelord he was treated appallingly it's also on you tube.
It's a credit to his decency he came back to do the audios and made them his own making his Doctor exellent & having a second chance to do on audio what he couldn't do on tv..

Me too in total agreement they basically to em to F off & wouldn't let him do another series, Grade & Powell even tried scuppering the revival.
Pair of prats both imited imagination & did you see Grade on Room 101 if you aint dont as he's ripping Doctor Who to bits to get a laugh
What criticism aimed at colin is unnecessary as his Doctor got the biggest hearts that's why he got so emotional & angry cause he cared.
I love most of Colins Doctor Who both Tv & audio.
